The USA (3-0) finished atop Group A with an 84-62 win over Brazil (1-2) Thursday at the 2026 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup in León, Mexico. With the win, the U.S. are now 12-0 vs. Brazil in U18 play. As winners of Group A, the U.S. earn a bye into the semifinals of the knockout round on Saturday, with their opponent and gametime TBD following Friday’s games. With a berth into the semifinals, USA Basketball has qualified for the 2027 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup next summer in Czechia.

POSTGAME NOTES
Fuggedaboudit: The first half was closely contested, ending with a 38-36 advantage to the USA. The red, white and blue applied pressure on both ends of the floor to break open the game and take a 59-47 lead into the final stanza. The third quarter featured a three-minute 13-1 run over the midpoint for the U.S. to jump out to a 53-39 lead. The U.S. outscored Brazil 41-21 in the second half.
Statue of Liberty: For a third consecutive game, USA’s defense stood strong and held the opposition to under 33.3% shooting from the floor. Brazil shot 29.9% (20-67 FG) on the evening, making just 2 field goals – both of which came in the last minute of the period – in their 11-point third quarter. Over the last two contests, U.S. opponents have shot just 10.2% (6-59 3FG) from distance as Brazil was held to 13.3% (4-30 3FG) from 3-point range.
Top of the Rock: The U.S. continue to own the glass, with their 62 rebounds today marking their most through group play. After outrebounding Argentina and Mexico by an average of 28.5 boards, the Americans outrebounded Brazil by 17 (62-45). For a second game, Bruce Branch III led the USA on the glass with 14 boards (11 vs. MEX), while Quentin Coleman, who averages 12.3 rpg and sits near the top of the tournament leaderboard, had his third 10+ rebound game of the tournament with 12 in the win. Through three games, the U.S. has 182 total rebounds (60.7 rpg).
The Five Boroughs: For the third consecutive game, the U.S. enjoyed a balanced scoring attack with five players recording 10+ points in the victory. Davion Thompson led the way with 16 points (6-9 FG, 2-4 3FG, 2-3 FT), while Coleman (15), Colben Landrew (13), Branch III (12) and Darius Wabbington (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the stars and stripes.
Branch III (12 pts, 14 rebs) and Coleman (15 pts, 12 rebs) tallied their second double-doubles of the competition, while Thompson has posted double-figure scoring totals in each contest.
