BORDEAUX, France (Aug. 20, 2026) – After an impressive 3-0 streak at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Bordeaux stop this week, the United States’ run came to an end in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.
The Americans fell to Spain as the sun set in the French town, 17-14, after a hard-fought battle. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the contest, Spain’s work in the pick-and-roll action proved difficult to contest, even for the USA’s great perimeter defenders. The game was knotted at 7-7 through three minutes of play, but Spain jumped out to a lead it could hold onto for the remainder. Mikayla Blakes led the Americans with six points, while Aerial Powers added four to the total.
A day earlier, the USA got a hot start through pool play, first holding onto a 14-12 win over Amsterdam (NED) in its opening 10-minute sprint. It was an all-around effort for the USA — Blakes and Powers led with four points apiece, and all of the Americans’ buckets came from inside the perimeter.
Three hours later, the USA met with France U25 (FRA), a home team for the riverside event on the southwestern side of the country, for a second group play contest. This time it was Taylor Bigby and efficient 2-point shooting that swung the unit to a 19-13 win. The group impressed with five blocks, including three big plays from Madison Scott.
The USA started out day two, the bracket-play stage, as the top team to emerge out of Pool B, where a tilt with Beijing (CHN) would await. The Americans would earn their largest margin of victory in Bordeaux in the quarterfinal, as Blakes exploded to an 11-point outing (including 7-of-9 on 1-point attempts) with the USA holding on for a 21-14 win.
