The USA (4-0) took a dominant 108-56 victory over Hungary (3-2) in the quarterfinals at Berlin Arena. The USA are now 4-0 all-time against Hungary at the World Cup.

The USA are now 9-0 World Cup quarterfinal games, having reached the stage since it was introduced in 1998. Each of the last eight quarterfinal wins have been by 20+ points, with 52 being the second-largest in the knockout stage since 2010 (QF: USA 106, KOR 44).

The semifinals are set for Saturday, Sept. 12 (time TBD) with the U.S. to play the winner of this evening’s game between Australia and Spain. The U.S. will play in their 11th semifinals, having never missed the stage since its introduction in 1986.

POSTGAME NOTES

Red Zone Ready: The USA raced out to a 36-12 lead after the first quarter, thanks in part to a 15-0 run from approx. 5:10 to 2:38. Napheesa Collier led the way with 10 points. The starters – Collier, Kahleah Cooper, Chelsea Gray, Breanna Stewart and Jackie Young – combined for 24 points in the period.

Per FIBA, 36 points are the second-most in a World Cup first quarter by any team in the 21st century (USA, 37, vs. Belarus, 2010). Through four games, the U.S. are +24 in the first five minutes and +79 in the first quarter. The red, white and blue scored 59 in the f irst half for their best first half quarterfinal total (prev. 53, 3 times).

Line to Gain: Stewart’s illustrious World Cup career stats continued to pile up in her 24th win. She reached 250 career points today with 8 to become the eighth American to reach that mark. Additionally, she is now one of four U.S. players to tally at least 50 assists, reaching 51 today.

Chip Shot: Collier led all scorers with 19 points (9-13 FG, 1-2 3FG), tying the U.S. mark for the tournament (Stewart, 19 vs. CZE). She broke the USA senior team personal best of 12 points she recorded Monday vs. Czechia. Collier is averaging 15.5 in her last two outings and 10.3 in four games.

Jackie Cool: Young contributed 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT) to go with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. She is the only the U.S. player to reach 10+ points in each game. In her first World Cup, Young is averaging a team-best 11.0 points on 54.5% (18-33 FG) from the field.

The 59-30 (+29) lead marked the largest halftime advantage in World Cup quarterfinal history along with the aforementioned +52 being the second-largest in knockout games since 2010.
108 points are the second-most of any team in the tournament (France, 111) and the USA are averaging 106.5 in their last two outings. All 12 U.S. players scored.
The U.S. shot 58.8% (40-68 FG) from the field with Copper (3-3), Angel Reese (4-5), Rhyne Howard (5-7) and Collier (9-13) shooting at least 69% each.
With 31 assists on 40 FGM, the USA became the first team with 30+ assists in a World Cup quarterfinal. The USA previously had 34 assists in a group stage game vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022.

Hail Mary: After shooting 29.0% (20-69 3FG) from 3-point range in the group stage, USA hit 12-of-23 from 3-point range for 52.2%. The 12 3s made tie the U.S. all-time World Cup game record (twice, most recently vs. CHN, 9/4/26). Seven players hit at least 1 3-pointer and Howard hit 3 of her 5 attempts.

The shooting defense remains tops in the tournament, holding the opposition to 32.7% (82-251 FG) from the floor and 20.7% (19-92 3FG) from 3-point. This morning, Hungary shot 34.4% (22-64 FG, 9-28 3FG) following shooting percentages of 32.8 by Czechia, 31.0% by Italy and 32.3% by China.
