POSTGAME NOTES
Win or Go Home: The red, white and blue wasted no time building offensive momentum – and a big lead – in the opening frame with their highest scoring period of the tournament (they also scored 31 in the 3rd). Following a Quentin Coleman 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer, the U.S. took a 31-14 advantage into the second quarter while making 57.9% (11-19 FG, 6-11 3FG) of their shots from the field. The U.S. lead would balloon to nearly 40 by the end of the third quarter when the U.S. used a 19-0 run over the last four minutes of the period to take an 81-44 lead. Tonight’s win was the USA’s third wire-to-wire victory of the week and their average margin of victory stands at 38.8 points (+155) through four contests.
Bullseye: The U.S. shot 52.78% (38-72 FG) in the win, their highest mark of the tournament, to reach triple-digit scoring for the second time. Impressively, the squad connected on 14 3-pointers on 42.4% shooting to tie the U.S. single game record (14, vs. CAN, 6/29/10) for U18 play. Four players connected on multiple 3-pointers, with Colben Landrew leading the squad with 4 makes from beyond the arc.
Full Court Press: Brazil struggled from the floor in both games against the U.S., shooting a combined 31.1% (41-132 FG), well below their 40% going into the contest. Tonight's contest also marked the third consecutive game a U.S. opponent shot below 20% from 3-point range, with Brazil going just 16.0% (4-25 3FG) from 3.
Game Changer: Coleman continued to make the team go on both ends of the floor with sneaky rebounds and timely shots. In his third double-double of the competition, Coleman contributed 15 points (6-9 FG, 2-4 3FG, 1-2 FT) along with a game-high 10 rebounds. He has tallied 10-or-more rebounds in every game, while his 15 points matched his previous game-high (also vs. BRA, 6/4/26).
Ball in Your Court: Landrew helped lead the charge on offense, with his team-high 18 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 3FG) marking the most of any U.S. player through the competition thus far. Through four games, Landrew is one of four Americans (also Coleman, Davion Thompson, Darius Wabbington) to record three double-digit scoring games.
