With 134 points, the United States set a single-game U19 record, besting their own mark of 129 set in 2005 and 2021.
Postgame Notes
Nothing Like Us: The United States improved 101-13 overall in U19 competition and have won 22 consecutive games, dating back to the first Group Phase win (79-56 vs. AUS) at the 2019 edition. The competition’s overall win streak record is 25, set up by the USA (last 3 games in 2011, 9 wins in 2013, 7 wins in 2015, 6 wins in 2017).
The U.S. is now 4-3 all-time against Korea in U19 competition. After dropping the first three games to Korea from 1985-93, the United States has won four in a row (2025, 2019, 2007, 2005) by an average of 50.5 points.
SWAG: The USA led 17-14 with 4:42 to play in the first quarter before the Americans set off on a 13-3 run to end the period, with Saniyah Hall contributing 5 of those points. The run continued into the second quarter as the red, white and blue tallied the first 11 points in under 3 minutes before scoreless Korea took a timeout. The USA went on to dominate the second quarter and outscored Korea 34-8 to hold a 64-25 halftime advantage.
Purpose: As good as they were on offense, the U.S. were pesky on defense. Korea was held to 33.3% from the field (23-69 FG, 4-16 3FG), took only 4 free throws (3-4 FT) and gave up 30 turnovers in the game (USA: 42 points off turnovers).
Also notable was the U.S.’s second chance advantage. The team turned 20 offensive boards into 32 second chance points (Korea: 2 second chance points).
Standing on Business: Everyone got in on the action for the United States, with everyone seeing time in the game. The bench made big contributions with 78 points (Korea’s bench had 33). Hall led all reserves with 23 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3FG, 5-7 FT) to go with 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
She’s Iconic, and So is She, and So are They: Sienna Betts set and maintained the pace for the red, white and blue. The 2024 U18 gold medalist tallied 6 of the USA’s first 15 points in 5 first quarter minutes before subbing out. By halftime, Betts was up to 15 points (7-8 FG, 1-1 FT). She went on to have a game-high 25 points (11-12 FG, 3-3 FT), 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead her team.
Betts (25) and Hall (23) became the first American duo to score 20+ points apiece since Napheesa Collier (24) and A’ja Wilson (20) did so in an 80-65 semifinal win vs. Spain in 2015.
Company: Three athletes today joined an elite group, making their USA Basketball competitive debuts in Brno. Sydney Douglas, Maddyn Greenway and Kate Harpring were among the first subs of the game, entering the contest midway through the first quarter.
