The USA (2-0) took a 138-38 victory over Puerto Rico (0-2) in the second game of group play at the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico.
Following the victory, the USA moved to 6-0 against Puerto Rico and 44-1 all time in FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup play.
The USA will finish out Group A competition against Argentina on June 18 at 5 p.m. ET, with tournament play beginning on June 20.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA started the game with Jazman Bailey, Olivia Jones, Eve Long, Micah Ojo and Ivanna Wilson Manyacka. The starting group combined for 53 points on 61.8% (21-34) shooting.
Scoring Outburst: With 138 points, the U.S. broke their single-game record for scoring at the competition, surpassing the previous record of 128 points vs. Dominican Republic (8/10/09). All 12 players scored for the Americans, with eight players scoring in double-figures. Reece Gilpatrick led the way with 20 points (9-9 FG, 2-3 FT) off the bench.
Coming Out Strong: The USA began the game in clear control, finishing the opening quarter with a 46-9 advantage behind 13 points and a whopping 9 steals from Wilson Manyacka. Over two games of play, Wilson Manyacka has already totaled 28 first-quarter points at the competition.
Chasing Records: Wilson Manyacka had a masterful performance on the defensive end, recording 10 steals in the contest to tie the U.S. single-game record for steals at the event held by Juju Watkins (10 steals vs. Chile - 8/23/21).
Forcing the Issue: The USA's frenetic defense forced 48 Puerto Rico turnovers, leading to 72 points off turnovers and 66 fastbreak points. Ten different U.S. players tallied 34 total steals in the contest.
Making a Statement: The U.S. pulled away with a 100-point win, their largest margin of victory since 2021 (109 vs. Costa Rica). Today’s result also marked their largest differential against Puerto Rico at the event.
