The USA (1-0) opened the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup with a 113-52 victory over Venezuela (0-1) in Irapuato, Mexico. Today’s game marked the USA Basketball competitive debuts for 11 of the 12 players on the U.S. roster.
Following the victory, the USA moved to 2-0 against Venezuela and 43-1 all time in FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup play.
The USA will continue Group A competition with matchups against Puerto Rico on June 17 at 5 p.m. ET and Argentina on June 18 at 5 p.m. ET.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA started the game with Jazman Bailey, Olivia Jones, Eve Long, Micah Ojo and Ivanna Wilson Manyacka. Manyacka is the lone player on the U16 squad with prior USA Basketball competitive experience, winning a gold medal at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup last summer in Leon, Mexico.

Pesky Defense: The USA defense tallied 25 steals, with eight players recording multiple steals. Tatianna Griffin led the way for the Americans with 5 steals. The U.S. forced 38 turnovers, converting them into 41 points.
Crashing the Boards: Eight Americans recorded an offensive rebound, with four players tallying at least 3 offensive boards. In total, the USA grabbed 25 offensive boards, leading to 22 second chance points. Griffin led the way on the offensive glass for the U.S. with 5 offensive rebounds (6 total rebounds).
