The USA (1-0) opened the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup with a 123-50 victory over Mexico (0-1) in Juarez, Mexico. Tonight’s game marked the USA Basketball competitive debuts for all 12 players on the U.S. roster.
With the victory, the USA moved to 6-0 against Mexico and 44-0 all time in FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup play.
The USA will continue Group A competition with matchups against Dominican Republic on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET and Argentina on June 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA started the game with Beckham Black, Erick Dampier Jr., Jordan Page, CJ Rosser and Marcus Spears Jr.
Coming Out Strong: The USA began the game on a 17-0 run, including making their first 5 shots from the floor, going 3-for-3 from 3-point range to start the contest. Rosser ignited the Americans’ hot start with 9 points on 3-for-3 from downtown to start the game. He finished the game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Signature Second: After Mexico battled back at the end of the first quarter to cut the American lead to 10 points, the USA blew the game open with a 23-0 start to the second period. The USA eventually outscored Mexico 31-8 in the second quarter to head into the half with a sizable 54-21 lead.
Turning a Page: Page finished the contest with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. He also added 3 rebounds and 1 assist in the victory.
Double the Fun: Spears Jr. helped pace the United States with the game’s only double-double. He recorded 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-6 FT) and a game-high 11 rebounds (9 DR). While he was the only player with double-digit rebounds, five of his teammates joined him for double-digit scoring including Page (25) and Hiller, Mercer, Rosser and Williams (13 each).
Efficient Offense: The U.S. finished the game shooting 59.0% (49-83 FG) from the field and hit at a mark of 76.4% (42-55) from 2-point range.
Staunch Defense: As Mexico was scoreless for significant stretches of the game, the USA held the opposition to just 26.8% (19-71 FG)) shooting from the field and 7.7% (2-26 3FG) from 3. The red, white and blue forced 33 turnovers, turning them into 49 points. Of the USA’s 19 steals, Nasir Anderson tallied a team-best 5 while Spears Jr. led the U.S. with 3 blocks. Anderson was one of five players with 2+ steals on the night.
