Marseille, France (May 25, 2025) – After cruising through Saturday’s pool play action at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Marseille Masters, Team Miami fell short to eventual winner Ub (SRB) in the semifinal Sunday morning in southern France. The unit placed third of 14 teams at the weekend-long event.
Team Miami, represented by Henry Caruso, Andrew Kelly, James Parrott and Dylan Travis opened up the tournament with a breakaway win over Utrecht (NED) to the tune of a 20-16 final after the full 10 minutes of play. It was Parrott, a 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup gold medalist, who took charge for Miami, supplying nine points and helping his team to stretch a neck-and-neck 8-8 game halfway through to as much as a 19-12 advantage. Kelly and Caruso were forces to be reckoned in the battle for boards, snatching nine and eight rebounds, respectively, while Caruso also added seven points.
To round out Group D competition on Saturday, Miami raced past Vienna 21-14, avenging themselves from the previous weekend’s quarterfinal loss to the team at the 3x3 Amsterdam Masters. Caruso led with nine points and shot 3-of-5 from 2-point land as they fought back from Vienna’s initial lead in the opening minutes. After Travis knocked in a pair of free throws to give Team Miami their first lead, 8-7, the team never looked back, charging ahead on a 13-7 scoring run to close out the matchup.
Moving to their quarterfinal contest early Sunday morning, Team Miami saw a real test as they narrowly defeated the event’s No. 2 overall seed Toulouse (FRA). Miami went down 4-6 early on before a timely 2-point shot from Travis and a bucket from Caruso reenergized the squad. The teams battled back and forth for a stretch before a string of three made 2-pointers — two from Parrott and one from Caruso — set the tone for Team Miami to finish out strong. Hugo Suhard was relentless in keeping Toulouse close behind, he knocked in back-to-back 2-point shots to put his team up one with five seconds remaining, but another beyond-the-arc make, this time from Kelly, beat the buzzer and gave Team Miami the W on a 21-20 mark.
It was Strahinja Stojacic and Ub who got the best of Team Miami in the next hour’s semifinal contest. Stojacic’s 12 points were too much to handle as Team Miami never led in the game. Nonetheless, the squad fought to stay in the game before the eventual champions stretched out their lead to a 22-16 final after nine minutes of action. Ub went on to defeat Amsterdam (NED) 22-15 in the final.
Team Miami, who holds one first place finish on the 3x3 World Tour thus far, championing the Utsunomiya Opener in Japan last month, will be back in action on the weekend of June 14-15 for their next stop on the circuit in Vienna.
Also in Marseille over the weekend, the USA made their FIBA 3x3 Women's Series debut. The team - including Cierra Burdick, Sarah Strong, Mikaylah Williams and Sahara Williams - went 4-1 and finished sixth overall after bowing out to eventual champion Spain in the quarterfinals.
