MESA, Arizona (May 4, 2025) – Players from across the country converged in Mesa, Arizona, this weekend for the 2025 USA Basketball 3X Nationals. Emerging as champions out of the field of eight men’s teams and 16 women’s teams were Uncle Slam and Chaos, respectively. Both teams finished the tournament undefeated, with Uncle Slam going 5-0 and Chaos going 6-0.
Women’s Tournament Wrap-Up
The first semifinal was a battle of undefeateds between South Carolina and Chaos. The Gamecocks matched up against a familiar face in MiLaysia Fulwiley, who spent her first two NCAA seasons at South Carolina before announcing a transfer to LSU last month. Fulwiley and company handed her former teammates their first loss of the weekend in a 21-10 affair. Fulwiley led both sides in scoring with seven points, including a trio of 2-pointers.
The other semifinal saw Rise take down 3XBA by a score of 21-12. Although Brittany Brewer struck first for 3XBA, Rise responded quickly thanks to Sahara Williams. Rise kept 3XBA at arm's length for the rest of the game to advance.
The championship was a tight back-and-forth battle between Chaos and Rise. Rise held a slim two-point lead going into the final 30 seconds, but Fulwiley managed to force overtime with back-to-back layups. In overtime, Chaos wasted no time getting the ball to Fulwiley, who knocked down a deep 2-point shot to finish the game and win the title by a score of 14-12. Fulwiley, once again, led her team in scoring with eight points, while Cierra Burdick was everywhere on the court, corralling six rebounds.
For her performance on Sunday and throughout the weekend, Fulwiley was named the women’s MVP of the tournament.
Men’s Tournament Wrap-Up
The first men’s semifinal featured a dominant showing from Uncle Slam. Despite missing Miller Kopp, who was injured the day before in pool play, Uncle Slam managed to keep up their endurance, winning 21-12, led by Devin Gilligan’s three 2-pointers and eight points.
The semifinal matchup between LA and Omaha was more closely contested. Still, Omaha emerged victorious 19-15 to advance to the championship. The well-oiled machine employed a balanced attack that saw each player score at least three points.
In the championship, Uncle Slam again took control despite their three-player rotation. This was due in large part to the play of Taylor Funk, who impressed with 11 points and three rebounds. Gilligan wasn’t far behind with eight points and three rebounds.
From Uncle Slam, Joe Wieskamp won the tournament MVP award on the men’s side.
