Utsunomiya, Japan (April 27, 2025) – After being stopped short two weeks ago at the Baoding Challenger, Team Miami charged full steam ahead into the Utsunomiya Opener and won their first World Tour event of the season on Sunday. Team Miami topped Amsterdam in a tight 21–17 championship game after winning their first four games of the event, finishing undefeated at 5-0. This is the second straight year that Team Miami have won this event.
In the pool play games Saturday, the Americans took Group C handily. They beat the hosts, Utsunomiya, 21–12, getting eight points from Mitch Hahn and five apiece from James Parrot and Henry Caruso. In Team Miami’s second pool play game, they again relied on Hahn, who contributed eight points, to beat Raudondvaris (Lithuania), 21–17.
In the quarterfinals, Team Miami’s game against Partizan (Serbia) started sloppy, with each team struggling to convert good looks inside. Eventually, Partizan opened the scoring, pushing out to a 7–2 lead.
The Americans had an answer, though, as Dylan Travis delivered three made two-point shots to tighten the game. Despite trailing for most of the match, Team Miami closed it out 19–14 to advance to the semifinals against Toulouse (France). Travis finished with a team-high eight points.
In the semifinals, Team Miami trailed Toulouse 3–0 early but rattled off an 8–1 run to grab the lead. Parrot showcased Team Miami’s versatility, becoming the third different player to lead the team in scoring with eight points. Team Miami responded well to Toulouse’s constant pressure, building their strongest lead late in the game at 18–13 and ultimately winning by a five-point margin, 21–16, to move on to the final against Amsterdam.
In the final, after falling behind early 6–4, Travis hit two big two-point shots to put Team Miami back in front at 8–7.
Amsterdam stayed pesky, playing with high energy and fighting to keep the game tight. Leading 12–10 with just under four minutes remaining, Team Miami needed to extend their lead, and Travis stepped up big once again. From that point, the 2024 Olympian hit three more two-point shots to push the lead to 18–14.
Hahn connected on another two-point shot, reaching five points for the game, and Travis was fouled to close out the 21–17 win on a free throw. Travis’ clutch 11-point performance carried Team Miami to the thrilling victory, while Hahn’s 30 total points across the tournament earned him MVP honors. The United States now have their first tournament win under their belt in the 2025 FIBA 3x3 World Tour.
