The 2025 Nike Hoop Summit saw the men and women USA teams match up against World Select Teams.
WOMEN'S TEAM NOTES
Starting Out: The USA women started Sienna Betts, Aaliyah Chavez, Jasmine Davidson, Madison Francis and Emilee Skinner.
Breaking Through: The USA found themselves facing a 4-point deficit (22-18) late in the first quarter before eventually building an 8-point edge (38-30) by the 7:02 mark of the second quarter. Backed by a balanced scoring attack, the Americans maintained a lead for the remainder of the first half, which featured six ties and six lead changes, entering the break with a 52-49 advantage. The two teams traded scores until the Americans outscored the World 19-10 in the fourth quarter en route to a 90-78 victory.
Spreading the Wealth: The USA set a Nike Hoop Summit women’s record for most assists in a game with 24. The previous record was set in 2023, when the USA women dished out 19 assists in a 100-79 victory. All 12 Americans scratched the scoresheet, with seven players finishing with at least 5 points.
Seizing the moment: The United States also set a Nike Hoop Summit women’s record for most field goals made by an American team with 35, surpassing 2023’s previous high of 33. Five Americans accounted for at least 4 made field goals, and every member of the red, white and blue poured in at least 1 bucket.
Dominating Defense: The USA’s constant defensive pressure forced the World to commit 23 turnovers. The Americans notched 18 steals and 5 blocks on the evening, while holding the World to 39.7% shooting from the field and 20.0% from 3-point range.
WOMEN'S PLAYER NOTES
All the Jazz: Davidson led the USA in the scoring department with 17 points (7-18 FG, 2-6 3FG). The local product added 6 rebounds, a game-best 7 assists, 3 steals and a game-best 3 blocks, a Nike Hoop Summit women’s record. Davidson became the first player to record at least 2 steals and 2 blocks in a Hoop Summit women’s game since its inception in 2023.
Glass Cleaner: Betts followed close behind Davidson with 16 points (8-14 FG) in her first USA Basketball appearance since earning gold at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup. She tied former Nike Hoop Summit participant Joyce Edwards for the most rebounds by a single player in the event with 9 and recorded a team-high 5 steals in 23 minutes of action.
Balanced Attack: Skinner (13 points), Chavez (10 points) and Aaliyah Crump (11 points) joined Davidson (17 points) and Betts (16 points) in the double-digit scoring department.
MEN'S TEAM NOTES
Starting Out: The USA men started Darius Acuff Jr., Nate Ament, Cameron Boozer, Mikel Brown Jr. and AJ Dybantsa.
Comeback Kids: Following a back-and-forth first quarter of action, the USA men fell behind by as many as 12 points late in the second quarter before heading to the locker room facing a 53-44 deficit. The Americans refocused after intermission, knotting it at 56 apiece before orchestrating a 12-0 scoring spurt to establish a 72-60 lead late in the third quarter. The World used a run of their own late in the fourth quarter, ultimately tying the game at 98 to send the game to overtime.
Frantic Finale: In the first overtime period since the Nike Hoop Summit’s inception in 1995, the USA outscored the World 26-16 in the extra frame. In doing so, the Americans broke the previous single-game scoring record of 109, which was set in 2006.
Three is Key: The U.S. altered the course of the game in the third quarter, outsourcing the World 37-15 in the 10-minute frame. The Americans shot 55.6% from the field (10-18 FG) and 29% from 3 (2-7 FG) in the period while holding the World to four field goals and two 3s.
Doing the Dirty Work: The Americans finished with a 85.4% mark (41-48 FT) from the free throw line to set a Nike Hoop Summit men’s game record for free throws made, surpassing the previous record of 34 set in 1997. They are only the second U.S. team ever and first since 1997 to make at least 30 free throws in the game.
MEN'S PLAYER NOTES
Big Four: Dybantsa (24 PT, 7-13 FG), Acuff Jr. (24 PT, 9-14 FG), Cameron Boozer (22 PT, 8-15 FG) and Trey McKenney (22 PT, 7-9 FG, 4-6 3FG) accounted for 20+ points each, becoming the first USA foursome to accomplish the feat. The last U.S. team to field three 20-point finishers was the 2005 group, when Louis Williams (20), Martell Webster (21) and Tyler Hansbrough (31) combined for 72 points in 2005.
Boards for Boozer: In addition to his 24 points, Cameron Boozer finished with 16 rebounds and leapfrogged Bol Bol, who grabbed 14 rebounds in 2018, for most rebounds by a player in the red, white and blue in a Nike Hoop Summit game. Boozer also joins Cooper Flagg (19 PTs, 11 REBs, 4/14/24) as the last American to record a double-double in the event.
Bench Boost: In his first USA Basketball appearance since winning gold at the 2024 FIBA Men's U18 AmeriCup, McKenney poured in 22 points (7-9 FG, 4-6 3FG) off the bench. In doing so, he became the first bench player to score at least 20 points since Luke Kennard in the 2015 Nike Hoop Summit.
