The USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team took one step closer to their goal of gold at the 2024 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup by beating Canada 111-60 on Friday in Istanbul.
The U.S. will take on New Zealand in the semifinals tomorrow, July 6, after the Kiwis defeated Lithuania 73-65 in the quarterfinals.
TEAM NOTES
Once In A Blue Moon: The USA is now 4-0 all-time against Canada in FIBA U17 World Cup action. Today's matchup was a rematch of the 2023 FIBA Men’s U17 AmeriCup gold medal game (U.S. won, 118-36). This back-to-back occurrence also happened in 2018 and 2017, where the Americans defeated Canada in the World Cup (120-71) and in the preceding AmeriCup gold medal game (111-60).
Not Rocket Science: The U.S. is the top shooting team at the 2024 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup. After shooting at a 47.0% (39-83 FG) clip against Canada, the U.S. field goal percentage for the tournament is 55.4% (245-442 FG).
Not For Nothing: Today’s margin of victory (51) marks the second time the USA has defeated Canada by 50-or-more points at a FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup. The previous 50-plus-point victory came in 2013 (113-59). The U.S. has scored over 100 points in every contest against Canada at the U17 level.

Not My First Rodeo: Cameron Boozer secured his third double-double of the FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup against Canada. He recorded a point-rebound double-double of 13-10. His other double-doubles at the competition have been (29 points, 12 rebounds vs. France; 17 points, 10 rebounds vs. Guinea).
Long In The Tooth: Always a triple-double flirt, Koa Peat continues to deliver for the red, white and blue. His quarterfinal performance featured 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals. He entered the game averaging 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals over four games.
Cut To The Chase: The U.S. totaled 29 steals tonight. Seven members of the roster came away with multiple steals, led by Brandon McCoy Jr. and Peat’s five. The other swipers include Cameron Boozer (4), Cayden Boozer (4), JJ Mandaquit (3), Chris Cenac Jr. (2), Jalen Haralson (2) and Caleb Holt (2).
