COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (June 3, 2024) - USA Basketball announced 35 athletes expected to participate in the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team training camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Training camp begins June 15 with the 12-member team expected to be announced before the team departs for the 2024 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup, scheduled for June 29-July 7 in Istanbul.
Training camp participants will represent the high school graduating classes of 2025 and 2026. Selections are made by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee.
From the class of 2025 are Kiyan Anthony, Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer, DeWayne Brown II, Chris Cenac Jr., AJ Dybantsa, Akai Fleming, Kingston Flemings, Jalen Haralson, Bryce James, JJ Mandaquit, Kayden Mingo, Koa Peat, Darryn Peterson, Jalen Reece and Jaden Toombs.
The class of 2026 includes Davion Adkins, Kayden Allen, Alijah Arenas, Tajh Ariza, Jason Crowe Jr., Anthony Felesi, Caleb Gaskins, Cameron Holmes, Caleb Holt, Taylen Kinney, Brandon McCoy Jr., Dylan Mingo, Jalen Montonati, Adam Oumiddoch, Steven Reynolds III, Deron Rippey Jr., Jordan Smith Jr., Tyran Stokes and Elijah Williams.
Thirty-two of the athletes have previous USA Basketball experience from national team competition, training camps or minicamps. Ten members of the 2023 USA Men’s U16 National Team, which won the gold medal at the 2023 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup, are expected at training camp, including Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer, Dybantsa, Holt, Mandaquit, McCoy Jr., Montonati, Peat, Peterson and Stokes.
Additionally, Peat already has a FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup gold medal on his resume as a member of the 2022 USA Men’s U17 National Team that prevailed in Malaga, Spain.
Training camp will be led by 2024 USA Men’s U17 National Team head coach Sharman White (Pace Academy, GA) and assistant coaches Scott Fitch (Fairport HS, NY) and Chet Mason (Brush HS, OH).
Court coaches during the opening days of training camp will be Dominic Amorosa (Strake Jesuit, TX), Frank Bennett (Chaminade College Prep, MO), Rob Brost (Bolingbrook HS, IL) and Nick LoGalbo (Lane Technical College Prep HS, IL), all of whom have prior USA Basketball coaching experience.
The USA has won the gold medal at each iteration of the FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup, dating back to 2010. In addition to six consecutive gold medals, the U.S. has not dropped a game in tournament history (44-0 all-time record).
The seventh edition of the FIBA Men’s U17 World Cup features 16 teams from around the world. All 16 teams will advance to the single-elimination tournament after group play.
The U.S. will take on France in their opening game on June 29 at 10:30 a.m. ET. On June 30, the USA will face Guinea for the first time ever, tipping off at 8 a.m. ET. Group B play closes with China at 5:30 a.m. ET on July 2 with the U.S. looking to improve to 5-0 all-time against the Chinese.
