On the final day of the 2025 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup, the USA (4-2) defeated Canada (4-2) 90-85 to take home the bronze medal.
The Americans are now (10-1) against the Canadians in AmeriCup action and 73-14 all-time at the competition.
Postgame Notes
Starters: For the fourth straight game, Tyler Cavanaugh, Jack Cooley, Langston Galloway, Jerian Grant and Javonte Smart started the game. Cavanaugh, Galloway and Grant started every game of the tournament.
Neighbor to the North: The U.S. and Canada are no strangers to each other at the AmeriCup, with today’s matchup marking the 11th in series history. The Americans are 10-1 all-time against the border rival, having won the three most recent games (today; 84-80 in 2022; 113-63 in 2007). In the 10 wins over Canada, the USA has an average margin of victory of 20.8 points, including 5 that have come by 20+ points.
On The Podium: The USA finishes on the AmeriCup podium for the 10th time in event history. Today’s bronze medal win is the second for the Americans as the 2022 squad also defeated Canada in the third-place game (84-80; 9/11/22). Team Effort: Four U.S. players scored in double figures with Cavanaugh and Smart leading the way with 21 points. Ramsey (5-10 FG, 2-5 3FG) and Cavanaugh (7-10 FG, 3-5 3FG) combined to shoot 60.0% from the field. Smart has led the U.S. scoring in four games this tournament. Also, with 10+ points was Galloway (11) and Jahmi’us Ramsey (12).
Cooler Than Cool: Jack Cooley was a force inside this week in Nicaragua. Leading the U.S. in rebounds, averaging 6.3 boards over six games, he stepped up today with eight to help the Americans win the bronze medal.
Helping Hand: The USA shot 32-for-64 from the field today (50.0% for those keeping track at home) and ball movement was the lesson of the day. The U.S. recorded 25 assists on 32 buckets. The 25 dimes was the most since dishing 29 against BAH (8/23).
