The USA advanced to the semifinals with a 110-44 win over Dominican Republic (1-4) on Friday afternoon at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago.
With the win, the USA women move to 4-0 against Dominican Republic and 40-9 all time at the AmeriCup.
The USA will face the winner of Canada-Colombia in the semifinals with the game time to be determined.
Postgame Notes
The Founding Five: Head coach Kara Lawson started the game with Madison Booker, Mikayla Blakes, Joyce Edwards, Olivia Miles and Grace VanSlooten in Friday’s win. Edwards made her fifth start, while Booker and Blakes made their fourth.
First Quarter Fireworks: The USA ended the first quarter on a 21-2 run to go into the quarter break with a 28-11 advantage, led by an 11-0 advantage on fastbreak points and a 20-4 advantage in the paint. Nine Americans scored in the opening frame.

Hannah Hidalgo added 17 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals and 1 block. The USA scored 100+ points for the third time in the tournament as six USA players scored 10+ points.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Rebounds: The Americans outrebounded Dominican Republic 57-32, including a 29-13 edge on the offensive glass, and dominated in the paint 54-20. The USA leads the tournament on the boards with 54.2 rpg.
Passing Like It’s 1776: Led by Hidalgo’s 9, the USA notched 32 assists on their 42 made field goals. The Americans now have amassed 135 total assists through five games (27.0 apg). Miles, who had 7 dimes on Friday, leads the USA for the tournament with 8.0 per game.
Stars, Stripes and Stops: The USA held Dominican Republic’s top scorer Cesarina Capellan (16.3 ppg into today) to 9 points and the Dominican Republic to just 31.6% shooting (18-57 FG, 3-17 3FG). The USA had 31 takeaways, marking the first time in the AmeriCup that the USA had 20+ steals since 2007 (24). The Americans tied their AmeriCup steals record, matching the 31 recorded vs. Mexico (6/28/93). With her six steals, Madison Booker tied Ruthie Bolton, Lisa Leslie and Carla McGhee for the USA single game steals record (6).
