The USA Basketball Men’s U19 National Team clinched the top spot in the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup Group D with a 129-70 victory over Cameroon on Tuesday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Bracket play of the competition, starting with the Round of 16, begins Wednesday as the U.S. takes on the fourth seed in Group C.
Postgame Notes
Timeless: The 129 points scored by the U.S. against Cameroon are the third-most scored by the USA and seven points shy of setting the USA single-game scoring mark for U19 competition. The red, white and blue shot 43-83 (51.8%) in the game, including nailing a U.S. record 19 3-pointers. The record high for points scored is 136 in a victory the Americans took against Madagascar (69) in 2023 and the previous record for 3FGM was 14 vs. Canada in 2009.
Save Your Tears: Tonight marked the first matchup between the U.S. and Cameroon in U19 action. The victory improves the USA’s all-time record when playing an opponent for the first time to 33-4, with defeats coming against Turkey (2023), Republic of Germany (1983), Croatia (1995) and Greece (1995). The Americans carry a 111-16 all-time record at the competition.
Wicked Games: After three Group D games, the U.S. find themselves with an unblemished record and advancing to the Round of 16 as one of four top seeds. The USA own victories over Australia (88-73), France (108-77) and Cameroon (129-70). Sitting atop their respective groups are New Zealand (2-1 in Group A) and Germany (3-0 in Group B) while Group C’s final games are currently in progress.
Earned It: Picking up where he left off, Mikel Brown Jr. was on fire from long range. A game removed from shooting 6-for-9 from deep against Australia, Brown Jr. followed with a 5-of-6 performance on 3’s. His 58 points through three games lead the U.S. (ditto for his 19 total assists).
Crew Love: The U.S. trio of Brown Jr. (24 points, 8 assists), AJ Dybantsa (16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) and Koa Peat (15 points, 6 rebounds) continued their streaks of scoring at least 10 points in each game of the U19 World Cup. In addition to the trios combined 55 points, the Americans saw solid contributions from Nik Khamenia (14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists), Jasper Johnson (11 points) and Caleb Holt (18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals).
Blinding Lights: The first impactful scoring run of the game occurred early in the first quarter. Over a span a 1:28, from 7:57 to 6:31 on the game clock, the U.S. scored nine unanswered points to give themselves they would not relinquish, 12-5. To open the second quarter, the USA blitzed to a 19-0 run over 3:11 of game time to extend their lead to 47-25.
