The USA (1-0) took a 108-47 victory over Chile (0-1) to open play at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile in front of a sold-out crowd.
With the win, the USA women move to 2-0 against Chile and 36-9 all time at the AmeriCup.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: Mikayla Blakes, Madison Booker, Joyce Edwards, Hannah Hidalgo and Grace VanSlooten started the game for the USA. Raegan Beers, Audi Crooks, Flau’jae Johnson, Gianna Kneepkens and Hannah Stuelke made their USA Basketball debuts in tonight’s game.
Leading the Way: Beers and Edwards led the way for the USA in Saturday’s win. In her USA debut, Beers scored a team-high 22 points (9-12 FG, 1-1 3FG, 3-3 FT) while adding 7 rebounds and 3 steals off the bench. Edwards tallied 19 points (7-12 FG, 1-1 3FG, 4-6 FT) and 6 rebounds in the contest.
Breaking it Open: After a back-and-forth start to the game, the USA embarked on a 21-0 run beginning with 1:42 left in the first quarter that led to a 32-14 USA lead at the 5:58-mark in the second period. The USA finished the first half up 46-23 after outscoring Chile 27-9 in the second quarter.
Offensive Showcase: The USA’s 108 points marked their fourth-highest point total in competition history and their most points at the event since scoring 110 vs. Paraguay in 2019. The red, white and blue shot an efficient 52.6% (41-78 FG) from the field and 41.2% (7-17 3FG) from 3-point range.
Team Rebounding: The USA outrebounded the Chileans 52-27, recording 26 second-chance points and 66 total points in the paint. All 12 players chipped in on the glass, with five Americans grabbing 4+ boards.
Defensive Digs: The USA held Chile to just 47 points, marking the 11th time in AmeriCup history the U.S. has held an opponent under 50 points in a contest. Chile was limited to a 27.8% (15-54 FG) clip from the field and 23.3% (7-30 3FG) mark from deep.
