The USA (4-0) took an 131-12 victory over Panama (0-4) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico.
Today’s victory marked the first time the USA and Panama have faced off at the U16 event, while the Americans moved to 46-1 all time in FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup play.
The USA now move onto semifinal play on June 21 at 10 p.m. ET to take on the winner of Mexico vs. Venezuela.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA started out with Jazman Bailey, Olivia Jones, Eve Long, Nation Williams and Ivanna Wilson Manyacka. Today’s game marked Williams’ first start of the competition. All 11 players who entered the contest recorded points for the Americans.
Opening Run: The U.S. began the game on an incredible 44-0 run, forcing 15 Panama turnovers while only allowing 8 opponent shot attempts through the first 8:29 of play. The USA would go on to end the first quarter with a sizable 48-2 advantage behind 15 points and 4 steals from Wilson Manyacka.
Winning With Authority: The USA’s 119-point win marked their largest winning margin at the event all time, surpassing the previous record margin of 111 points (128-17 victory) against Dominican Republic in 2009. Additionally, the win was the Americans’ second victory by at least 100 points at the 2025 competition, the first time they have recorded multiple 100-point wins in a single WU16 event.
Wilson Manyacka Mastery: Wilson Manyacka tallied a team-high 26 points (11-14 FG, 4-6 3FG), the most points by a U.S. player at the event since JuJu Watkins posted 28 points on Aug. 29, 2021, vs. Canada. She also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Through four games, she leads the U.S. in total points (73) and steals (19).
Outstanding Offense: The USA’s 131 points are the second most they've recorded all time at the event (138 points vs. Puerto Rico, 2025). The Americans also dished out a record 39 assists, breaking their previous single-game high of 33 dimes vs. Mexico (8/28/21).
Stellar Defense: Panama’s 12 points were tied for the fewest points allowed all time by the U.S. at the event (12 points allowed vs. Costa Rica, 2021). The Americans held Panama to a 10.5% (4-38) clip from the field while recording 31 steals in the contest.
Semis-Bound: For the ninth time, the USA has advanced to the U16 semifinals. The Americans will now look to advance to the gold medal game for the eighth time at the event; their seven finals appearances are tied with Canada for the most of any country at the competition.
