The USA (3-0) took a 101-46 victory over Argentina (2-1) in the final game of group play at the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico.
Following the victory, the USA moved to 8-0 against Argentina and 45-1 all time in FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup play.
The USA now head into the knockout stage with the quarterfinals of the competition beginning on June 20. The Americans will await the results of the remaining games of group play to determine their opponent and game time in the quarterfinals.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA began the game with Jazman Bailey, Olivia Jones, Eve Long, Micah Ojo and Ivanna Wilson Manyacka. For the second consecutive game all 12 players recorded points for the U.S.
Opening Strong: The U.S. began the game on a 25-3 run, holding Argentina to a 1-for-12 (8.3%) start from the field. The USA eventually finished the opening quarter with a 27-6 advantage behind 11 points from Long and 7 points from Ojo.
Long the Leader: Long led the way on offense with 17 points (5-8 FG, 7-8 FT), while adding 5 rebounds and 1 steal. She has now reached double-figures in the scoring column in all three games at the competition, averaging 12.7 points.
Lockdown Defense: Allowing just 46 points, the USA held Argentina to only 24.6% (16-65) shooting from the field and 22.2% (6-27) from 3-point territory. In eight games all time, Argentina has averaged just 40.9 points per game against the U.S. at the U16 event.
Micah Magic: Ojo totaled a game-high 5 steals in the win, part of a 15-steal performance by the USA as a team. Through three games of group play, Ojo has tallied 10 steals, one of three U.S. players (Wilson Manyacka – 15 steals & Morghan Reckley – 10 steals) to record double-digit steals during the group stage.
Winning the Boards: The USA won the rebounding battle 57-32, with five Americans recording at least 5 rebounds in the contest. The U.S. also totaled 24 second-chance points.
