The USA (5-0) defeated Puerto Rico (3-2) 106-68 in the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup semifinals in Juarez, Mexico, advancing to the gold medal game for the ninth time at the event – the most of any country.
Following the win, the U.S. moved to 9-0 against Puerto Rico and 48-0 all time in FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup play.
The USA will take on the winner of Canada vs. Venezuela in the finals tomorrow at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA began the contest with Beckham Black, Erick Dampier Jr., Jordan Page, CJ Rosser and Marcus Spears Jr. The starting group went a combined 18-35 (51.4%) from the field.

Defensive Intensity: The U.S. held Puerto Rico to 32.4% (24-74) shooting from the field and 21.1% (7-33) from 3-point range in a fierce defensive effort. Black and Spears Jr. led the way with 4 steals apiece as the Americans recorded 35 total points off turnovers.
Bench Buckets: The U.S. has had at least three players score in double figures off the bench in each game of the competition. Tonight, Hiller (23 points), Mason Collins (11) and AJ Williams (11) were the 10-plus point scoring reserves for the USA. Williams leads the U.S. with five games of 10-plus points as a reserve this tournament.
Landslide: Entering the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup, the USA has an average margin of victory in the tournament’s semifinals of 43.0 points. In 2017, the U.S. defeated Argentina 121-49, a record difference of 72 points. Tonight’s 38-point victory ranks sixth all-time for the Americans. Additionally, the U.S. improves to 3-0 against Puerto Rico in semifinal games, an identical record the USA has against Argentina and Canada in the tournament’s penultimate round.
Gold Medal Guide: The U.S. is 8-0 all-time in FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup gold medal games. The Americans have faced Argentina and Canada in the tournament’s final, holding a 4-0 record against each. In four of the last five U16 gold medal matchups, the USA have triumphed over the Canadians. In the last iteration of the competition, the red, white and blue defeated Canada 118-36, setting the largest margin of victory (82) in the history of the event’s championship game.
