The USA (3-0) defeated Argentina (1-2) 124-56 in their final group play game at the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup in Juarez, Mexico.
Following the win, the U.S. moved to 12-0 against Argentina – their most wins against any team at the event – and 46-0 all time in FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup play.
Tournament play for the competition begins with the quarterfinals on June 6 where the USA, as the top finisher in Group A, matches up with Brazil (0-3 in Group B).
Postgame Notes
Starting Out: The USA started the game with Beckham Black, Erick Dampier Jr., Jordan Page, CJ Rosser and Marcus Spears Jr. The first five accounted for 60 of the USA’s 124 points in the game.
Sizzling Start: For the third consecutive game, the USA started with an impressive run, going up 10-0 on Argentina to open the first quarter while shooting 4-for-5 from the field. The U.S. would finish the opening quarter with a 38-17 lead behind Spears Jr.’s 12 points.
Super Spears: Spears Jr. led the USA in the scoring column with 18 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3FG, 4-4 FT), while adding 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks and 4 steals in an all-around effort. Spears Jr’s 9 total blocks are a team high through three games.
Winning the Turnover Battle: The U.S. forced 42 Argentinian turnovers, while only turning the ball over 13 times themselves. The Americans were able to turn their disruptive defense into offense, recording 66 points off turnovers in the contest. Nine players recorded multiple steals for the USA, with Rosser and Spears Jr. leading the way with 4 apiece.
Pool Play Performers: The 2025 USA Men’s U16 National Team continued a storied tradition of elite group play performances. Having scored 100+ points in each Group A game in Juarez, the 2025 team joins the 2021, 2015, 2011 and 2009 squads to score over the century mark in each of their respective group phase contests. In U16 history, the U.S. has scored more than 100 points in group play games 23 times.
Relentless: The Americans doubled up each of their three opponents at the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup. The 2025 squad becomes the first USA Men’s U16 National Team to double their opposition in each pool play game (123-50 vs. MEX on 6/2; 111-54 vs. DOM on 6/3; 124-56 vs. ARG on 6/4). Across all games in U16 history, the U.S. has doubled their adversary 14 times.
