COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (May 5, 2025) – USA Basketball announced today the 2025 USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team coaching staffs. Leading the 2025 USA Women’s U19 National Team is Teri Moren (Indiana University), who will be assisted by Niele Ivey (University of Notre Dame) and Jose Fernandez (University of South Florida). The head coach of the 2025 USA Women’s U16 National Team is Steve Gomez (Lubbock Christian University, TX) alongside assistant coaches Brittanny Johnson (Evanston Township High School, IL) and Krystle Johnson (Hoover High School, AL)..
Moren, Ivey and Fernandez will lead the USA at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in Brno, Czech Republic, from July 12-20. Last year, the trio guided the 2024 USA Women’s U18 National Team to the gold medal at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in Bucaramanga, Colombia. The USA will look to capture their fourth straight gold medal and 11th overall in the competition since its inception in 1985.

Moren will assume her second head coaching position with USA Basketball after capturing gold as head coach last summer and as assistant coach at the 2023 FIBA Women's U19 World Cup and 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship.
Moren recently concluded her 11th season as the head coach of the Hoosiers. The Indiana native is the program’s all-time winningest coach while leading them to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, three Sweet 16’s and an Elite Eight appearance along with 10-consecutive 20-win seasons. Moren is a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year (2016, 2023) and was named the 2023 Associated Press National Coach of the Year.
Ivey is set to make her second USA Basketball assistant coaching appearance after holding the role with the 2024 U18 squad. She has coached five seasons for the Fighting Irish, accumulating a 117-38 record while leading the team to four consecutive Sweet 16 appearances. During the 2024-25 season, Notre Dame went 28-6 and earned a share of the ACC regular season title for the second time in three years, reaching No. 1 in the AP Poll for the first time in six seasons. The 2023 ACC Coach of the Year, Ivey previously served as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2019-20 season and for Notre Dame from 2007 to 2019.
Fernandez returns to USA Basketball for his second assistant coaching stint after serving in the same role at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup. Fernandez has amassed a 25-year head coaching career at South Florida with multiple accolades. He is the program’s all-time winningest coach, a two-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (2018, 2021) and has led the Bulls to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Gomez, Brittanny Johnson and Krystle Johnson will lead the U.S. at the 2025 FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup in June. The host site and specific competition dates for the event are yet to be determined. The USA will look to capture their fifth straight gold medal and eighth overall since the tournament’s inception in 2009.
Gomez will make his head coaching debut with USA Basketball after serving as an assistant coach at the 2018 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup and 2017 FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship. He was also a court coach for the 2025 April Women’s Junior National Team minicamp and 2016 Women’s U17 World Championship Team trials. Gomez has spent 22 seasons at the helm at LCU, leading the Lady Chaps to three NCAA Division II Championships (2021, 2019 and 2016).

Brittanny Johnson makes her second appearance as an assistant coach with USA Basketball after previously serving in the role at the 2022 FIBA Women's U17 World Cup. She was a court coach at the 2025 April Women’s Junior National Team minicamp and 2021 U16 Women’s National Team trials. She is currently the head basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Evanston Township High School in Evanston, Illinois.
Krystle Johnson will make her assistant coaching debut after serving as a court coach at the 2025 April Women’s Junior National Team minicamp and 2024 U17 Women’s National Team trials. As head coach at Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama, she has led the Lady Bucs to five consecutive state titles.
Coaching selections for the U19 Women’s National Team were made by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, while coaching selections for the U16 Women’s National Team were made by the Women’s Developmental National Team Committee. All selections were approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.
