COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Jan. 9, 2025) – USA Basketball announced today the 2025 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team coaching staffs. Leading the 2025 USA Men’s U19 National Team will be Tommy Lloyd (University of Arizona) alongside assistants Grant McCasland (Texas Tech University) and Micah Shrewsberry (University of Notre Dame). The head coach for the 2025 USA Men’s U16 National Team is Scott Fitch (Fairport High School), who will be assisted by Frank Bennett (Chaminade College Prep) and Nick LoGalbo (Lane Technical College Prep).
Coaching staff selections for the U19 National Team were made by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee. For the U16 National Team, coaching selections were made by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee. All selections were approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.
Lloyd, McCasland and Shrewsberry will lead the USA at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup June 28-July 6 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The trio previously served as the coaching staff for the 2024 USA U18 National Team, a squad that went 6-0 and won the gold medal at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup in Buenos Aires.
“It is always an honor to serve USA Basketball,” Lloyd said. “I have always been a fan of FIBA basketball and will embrace the opportunity to lead a very talented group of young men this summer. I look forward to working with Coach McCasland and Coach Shrewsberry again as we try to bring home gold from the World Cup.”
Lloyd was also a court coach for the 2022 U18 National Team training camp and has previously served as a USA Basketball committee member. McCasland was a court coach for the 2021 U19 National Team training camp and Shrewsberry a court coach for the 2023 U19 National Team training camp.
The FIBA U19 World Cup takes place every two years with the U.S. winning eight gold medals in the history of the event, including two of the last three (2019, 2021).
Fitch, Bennett and LoGalbo all have extensive USA Basketball experience and will lead the Americans at the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup June 2-8 (location to be announced at a later date by FIBA Americas).
“I am always humbled when given the opportunity to represent USA Basketball,” Fitch said. “I am excited for the journey this summer. I cannot wait to help guide this team and connect with a special group of young players. I feel blessed to have two tremendous assistants that I will be able to coach with and learn from in Frank Bennett and Nick LoGalbo."
Fitch’s first head coaching assignment with USA Basketball came at the 2019 Nike Hoop Summit, where the USA prevailed 93-87 over the World Team. Since 2017, Fitch has more than 20 coaching assignments ranging from assistant coach (three gold medals) to court coach (junior national team minicamps). Bennett and LoGalbo are two-time assistant coaches at the Nike Hoop Summit (2023, 2024) and they have been junior national team minicamp court coaches for several years. Additionally, LoGalbo has three gold medals as a 3x3 junior national team head coach.
The FIBA U16 AmeriCup has been held biennially since 2009 and the Americans have captured the gold medal in each edition of the competition.
