COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Aug. 28, 2024) – USA Basketball announced today it will host a Women in the Game conference at Georgia State University’s Dahlberg Hall in Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Launched in 2017, USA Basketball Women in the Game is an opportunity to educate and inspire more women to pursue a career in sports. While speakers will focus on supporting college women, young professional females and high school girls, anyone is welcome to attend. Guest presenters from a variety of fields will share their personal career journeys, discuss the essential characteristics to succeed in their roles, and provide practical strategies to get started and sustain success in the highly competitive sports industry.
Registration is $65 and available online. Each attendee will receive lunch, USA Basketball gear, and an opportunity to network with other participants and guest speakers. The following speakers and panelists have been confirmed and additional presenters will be added before the event.
- Octavia Blue – Kennesaw State University, women’s basketball head coach
- Nell Fortner – Georgia Tech, women's basketball head coach
- Dr. Angel Mason – Berry College, director of athletics
- Dr. DeRetta Rhodes – Atlanta Braves, executive V.P./chief culture officer
- Kelcey Roegiers – Georgia State University, senior associate athletics director/senior women administrator/human resources officer
- Dr. Allison Smith – Georgia State University, assistant professor of sport administration
- Tamica Smith Jones – Kennesaw State University, athletics chief operating officer
- Lovie Tabron – Atlanta Falcons, player engagement specialist
Additionally, the USA Basketball Foundation will award scholarships to women interested in working in sports to attend the conference. The scholarships will cover conference registration. More information, including application, eligibility and deadline information, is available here.
