USA Men's National Team Defeats Canada in USA Basketball Showcase

The 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team won its first contest of the 2024 USA Basketball Showcase with a 86-72 victory over Canada on Wednesday in Las Vegas. The U.S. Men’s National Team now hold a 35-3 record in exhibition games leading into Olympic competition.

The victory marks the second time the U.S. has defeated Canada in an exhibition leading up to the Olympic Games, first since a 99-70 triumph in 2000 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The USA now moves to 5-0 in all exhibitions matches versus the Canadians since 1999.

Stardust: The USA's starting unit, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Jrue Holiday and LeBron James, combined for 44 points, 20 rebounds and 14 assists in their 89 combined minutes on the hardwood.

The Trop: The USA went 30-for-50 (60.0%) from inside the arch and 37-of-73 (50.7%) from the field while Canada recorded a 19-for-44 (43.2%) clip from two-point range and 26-of-77 (33.8%) mark from the floor. The Americans demolished with nine blocks to Canada's one in a strong effort near the painted area.

Boardwalk: After facing an 11-1 deficit to open the contest, the USA orchestrated a 27-12 extended scoring surge from the 5:25 mark of the first quarter to the 5:33 stamp in the second quarter. The USA wound up outscoring Canada in both the second and third quarters following a slow start in the first quarter.

Pair-O-Dice: 2012 Olympic gold medalist Anthony Davis secured the game's only double-double, finishing with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. The Los Angeles Laker is one of eight players to have won an NBA (2020), NCAA (2012) and Olympic (2012) title in USA Basketball history.

Old Vegas: James, a four-time Olympian dating back to 2004, scored seven points, corralled five rebounds and registered three steals. Curry, who made his USA Basketball debut in 2007, poured in 12 points, drilled three 3-pointers and dished out three assists.

Golden Gate: The USA men's exhibition win vs. Canada officially ignites USA Basketball's quest for four gold medals at Olympic Games Paris 2024. The U.S. will send its 2024 USA Women's National Team and both the 2024 USA 3x3 Men's & Women's National Teams to Paris later this month.
