The U.S. downed Brazil to take the top seed in Group B. After a slow start, the U.S. took it’s first lead on a Jasper Johnson three to start the second quarter and led from that point on.
The USA take on Puerto Rico on Thursday, June 7, in the quarterfinals (time TBD) live on the FIBA YouTube channel.
TEAM NOTES
Second Frame’s a Charm: The U.S. was tied with Brazil (19-19) after the opening quarter but pulled away in the second frame to take control of the game. The Americans outscored their opponent 31-14 in the second to take a 17-point lead into the half. The USA held a double-digit lead throughout the second half en route to the 31-point decision.
Sharing is Caring: The Americans finished with 24 assists on 35 made field goals, marking their second straight game with 24+ helpers.
In Transition: The Americans were on the run and finished with 31 points on the fastbreak. The team has played great transition defense as well and allowed only two fast break points for the second straight game.
Big on the Boards: The U.S. outrebounded Brazil 60-36 and continued their dominance on the glass in their final group play game. The team has recorded 60+ rebounds in each of its three games.
Take Care: The USA took care of the ball and recorded 9 turnovers while causing 13 from Brazil. The team finished with less than 10 turnovers the past two games.
PLAYER NOTES
Trey and J: Johnson and Trey McKenney tied for the team-high in scoring with 12 points apiece. McKenney added a personal-best 7 rebounds, while Johnson finished shooting 57.4% (4-7 3FG) from beyond the arc. Both players reached double figures for the first time in the competition.
Johnson and Johnson: Morez Johnson Jr. led the team in rebounding for the second consecutive game, grabbing 9 boards in the contest. He played an all-around game, adding 3 points, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block.
Dang, Daniel: Daniel Jacobsen finished with 8 points (4-5 FG), 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. He has 11 blocks through three games.
