MIAMI (Nov. 27, 2023) – USA Basketball announced today the 2023 USA Men’s and Women’s 3x3 AmeriCup teams. Both teams will train Nov. 27-29 in Miami Lakes, Florida, before competing at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup, set for Dec. 1-3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The U.S. men are two-time reigning 3x3 AmeriCup champions, while the women won bronze in 2022.
Each team is comprised of four athletes who bring a combination of USA Basketball (5-on-5 and 3x3) and professional 3x3 experience.
The 2023 USA 3x3 Women’s AmeriCup Team includes Dearica Hamby (Los Angeles Sparks), Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever), Katie Lou Samuelson (Los Angeles Sparks) and Camille Zimmerman (USO Mondeville).
The 2023 USA 3x3 Men’s AmeriCup Team includes Trey Bardsley (3Ball Omaha), Devin Cannady (Birmingham Squadron), Mitch Hahn (3Ball Omaha) and Bryce Wills (Grand Rapids Gold).
Zimmerman possesses vast 3x3 experience, winning bronze at the 2022 3x3 AmeriCup and competing on the 2022 and 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series. Samuelson, a six-time 5-on-5 gold medalist, will take on her second 3x3 assignment after helping qualify the USA for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with a first-place finish at 2021 FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Samuelson ultimately did not compete in Tokyo after testing positive for COVID-19. Hamby, who participated in the 5-on-5 USA Women’s National Team training camp and exhibition against Duke earlier this month, and Mitchell, who most recently took part in the 2022 World Cup Qualifying February window, will make their 3x3 debuts.
All four members of the men’s team were named to a USA 3x3 team or have competed on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in 2023. While neither Bardsley nor Hahn competed with USA Basketball teams, the two contributed to the USA’s qualification for the 2024 Olympics as members of Team Omaha. Bardsley was also a gold medalist at the 2021 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup. Team Miami member Wills returns to USA Basketball after recently aiding the 2023 USA 3x3 U23 World Cup Team to its first ever gold medal. Cannady competed at 3X Nationals and finished as a semi-finalist with Run N Gun.
The teams will be helmed by Jennifer Rizzotti (women) and Fran Fraschilla (men). Rizzotti won gold at the 2023 3x3 Women’s World Cup and more recently at the 2023 Pan American Games. Fraschilla, who coached the 2022 3x3 AmeriCup men to gold, most recently coached Team Washington DC on the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Tour.
The FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup will feature 24 teams. A total of 12 teams will compete in the men's and women’s categories respectively. The men will start competition in Pool A alongside Argentina and either Uruguay, Ecuador or Haiti dependent on qualifying results. The U.S. women drew into Pool A with Dominican Republic and Uruguay. The top two teams in each pool will qualify to the elimination bracket, starting with the quarterfinals. For more information, click here.
