COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (July 7, 2023) – USA Basketball announced today the teams expected to participate in the men’s and women’s 9th and 10th grade divisions of the 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships in Memphis, Tennessee. The U.S. Open Basketball Championships will take place at the NCAA College Basketball Academy, July 24-27 for the men and July 28-31 for the women.
The current U.S. Open Basketball Championships field is here.
The U.S. Open Basketball Championships are USA Basketball’s premier summer 5-on-5 youth tournament, played under USA Basketball youth guidelines, to crown national champions.
The 24 teams in each division earned their berth into the U.S. Open Basketball Championships by placing in Official Qualifiers held nationwide in the lead up to the U.S. Open or by receiving a limited wildcard bid awarded by the U.S. Open selection panel. One invitation in each division was also reserved for the winning programs from the 2022 U.S. Open Basketball Championships.
The final team in both the women’s 9th and 10th grade divisions will be determined at a July qualifier to round out the women’s field.
The competition features pool and bracket play en route to the championship games. Based on pool play results, teams will either advance to the Stars or Stripes bracket. The men’s and women’s 9th and 10th grade Stars championship games will be livestreamed on YouTube.com/usabasketball.
Teams will also attend off-court educational sessions hosted by the NCAA to help them prepare for the next level with topics focused on eligibility standards, recruitment, NIL, agents and the transfer portal.
The 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships holds divisions and crowns champions across 10th grade, 9th grade, 8th grade, 13U and 12U. The 8th grade, 13U and 12U championships for boys and girls took place June 23-25 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
In addition to the U.S. Open Basketball Championships, USA Basketball will host 3x3 trials for the 2023 Women’s U17 National Team. The Men’s U17 trials that were previously scheduled to take place in Memphis have been postponed. More information on both trials, including a list of athletes expected to attend, will be announced at a later date.
