COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (June 7, 2023) – USA Basketball announced today the men’s and women’s 2023 USA 3x3 U21 Nations Leagues teams set to compete at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 U21 Nations League June 23-29 in Handan, China. The teams were selected by the respective men’s and women’s USA Basketball 3x3 National Team committees.
The 2023 USA 3x3 Women’s Nations League Team features NCAA Division I athletes, including Mara Braun (Minnesota), Christina Dalce (Villanova), Jillian Hollingshead (Tennessee), Morgan Maly (Creighton), Lucy Olsen (Villanova) and Shyanne Sellers (Maryland).
While all six athletes will make their USA Basketball international debuts, each has participated in USA Basketball 3x3 events. Dalce, Hollingshead, Maly, Olsen and Sellers competed at 2023 USA Basketball 3X Nationals last month, with Maly and her Creighton Bluejays taking the title. Sellers attended trials for the 2022 USA U23 Nations League Team while Braun competed at 2023 3x3 women’s team trials in May. Additionally, Hollingshead was a finalist for the 2019 USA Women’s U16 National Team (5-on-5).
Nick LoGalbo (Lane Technical College Prep H.S.) will serve as women’s head coach. LoGalbo has coached with USA Basketball since 2019, serving assignments in both 3x3 and 5-on-5. Most recently, he was an assistant coach for the 2023 USA Men’s Nike Hoop Summit Team and previously led the 3x3 U18 World Cup teams the last two years, an event the men won in 2021 and the women in both 2021 and 2022.
A six-member team from Trinity University will represent the United States in the men’s event. Trinity head coach Jimmy Smith and his program have supported USA Basketball 3x3 over the last several years, including serving as the 3x3 USA Select Team during the 2020 Olympic qualifying process that took place in bubble environments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The roster includes Braxton Barry, Christian Green, Jacob Harvey, Grayson Herr, Jacob Millhouse and Abdullah Roberts. Harvey has participated as a practice player for prior 3x3 training camps.
The 2023 USA U21 Nations League teams will compete in the FIBA 3x3 U21 Nations League Asia-Pacific Conference from June 23-29 in Handan, China. The competition will feature six three-game tournaments in seven days in which the six team members can substitute as needed for each day’s four-person entry. The winning team in each of 13 conference events hosted worldwide will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League Final Sept. 13-15 in Mongolia.
The 2023 3x3 U21 Nations League will stream live on YouTube at www.youtube.com/fiba3x3.
Different than 5-on-5, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams “clear” the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
The 2023 USA 3x3 U21 Nations Leagues teams will train in Miami Lakes, Florida, June 17-19 before traveling to China. Media interested in covering training camp may apply for credentials by emailing communications@usabasketball.com.
