COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (May 28, 2023) – USA Basketball announced 22 finalists for the 2023 USA Women’s U16 National Team following three days of trials in Colorado Springs.
The finalists, selected from 52 trials invitees, will vie for one of 12 spots on the U.S. U16 National Team that will compete at the 2023 FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship from June 13-19 in Mérida, Mexico. The final roster will be announced at a later date.
Finalists were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Developmental National Team Committee and represent the graduating classes of 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028. Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens, born on or after January 1, 2007.
The finalists are Jacy Abii, Darriana Alexander, Kelsi Andrews, Addison Bjorn, Aaliyah Crump, Sydney Douglas, Oliviyah Edwards, Alexandra Eschmeyer, Kelis Fisher, Amayah Garcia, Lanie Grant, Maddyn Greenway, Jayla Jackson, Marcayla Johnson, Trinity Jones, Lola Lampley, Keziah Lofton, Jordyn Palmer, Isabella Ragone, Jerzy Robinson, Hailee Swain and McKenna Woliczko.
The group features a mixture of newcomers and players with USA Basketball experience. Abii, Alexander, Andrews, Bjorn, Crump, Edwards, Greenway, Jackson, Lampley, Lofton and Robinson recently participated in the inaugural 2023 Women’s Junior National Team April Minicamp in Dallas.
Dan Rolfes (Incarnate Word Academy) will serve as the USA’s head coach along with assistants Bobbi Morgan (Ursinus College) and Trenia Tillis-Hoard (Tyler Junior College).
The 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship features eight teams from the FIBA Americas zone with the top four teams advancing to the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup in Mexico. The U.S. drew Group A with Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia.
The Americans are 34-1 all-time at the competition, having won three straight gold medals. For more information, click here.
