Colorado Springs, COLORADO – In anticipation of Giving Tuesday, on Nov. 29, the USA Basketball Foundation encourages the basketball community to support the organization’s goal to grow the game in 2023. Donations can be made here, which will directly aid the USA Basketball Foundation’s pillars of empowering youth, championing women and promoting social responsibility.
“This is the USA Basketball Foundation’s second Giving Tuesday and we are asking the community to consider supporting the ways we grow the game,” said USA Basketball Foundation’s Chief Development Officer, Jennifer Lynne Williams. “We hope to exceed the amount raised on Giving Tuesday of nearly $10,000 in 2021, including contributions from nearly 50 first-time donors, as we continue to grow the awareness of what the Foundation is doing in communities across the country. A donation of any amount matters so we can fund year-round programs to help grow the game in 2023.”
Giving Tuesday, the global day of generosity, was created in 2012 as a day of giving and philanthropy on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
“We focused on USA Basketball’s youth programs in 2021,” Williams explained. “We wanted to make up for lost time in the community because of the pandemic. Donations helped our Youth and Sport Development put on in-person skill camps and clinics across the country. Together, with support from donors and corporations, we empowered our youth.”
Other initiatives the USA Basketball Foundation supports on an annual basis include Women in the Game conferences, Torch Leadership in Sport Mentorship Program and Open Court Program. Since its inception in 2019, the USA Basketball Foundation has generated funding that focuses on its three pillars and not financially supporting the national teams.
“We want to make sure we appeal to everyone,” Williams said. “Current and prospective donors have different options to show their support on Giving Tuesday and throughout the year. We understand that people have a number of charities they support and we hope that they consider giving to the USA Basketball Foundation. Our current donors have done a fantastic job of spreading the word on what we are doing and we will grow the game with everyone’s help.”
