WASHINGTON D.C. – USA Basketball announced today that guard Elijah Pemberton (Hofstra/Santa Cruz Warriors) will join the November 2022 USA Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team in Washington D.C., as the team prepares for a pair of World Cup Qualifying Games this week. Jake Layman received a professional opportunity to play overseas and is no longer available for the upcoming window.
Pemberton was a member of the 2022 USA Basketball AmeriCup Team which earned bronze in Recife, Brazil in September. He played in all six games, averaging nearly four points per game.
In 2021-22 for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Pemberton played 29 games and averaged 25.4 minutes, 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 54.1% from the field.
The USA squad, coached by Jim Boylen, opened training camp Saturday in preparation for the fifth competition window of 2021-23 FIBA World Cup Qualifying games that will see the USA (7-1) face Brazil (5-3) on Friday, Nov. 11 and Colombia (3-5) on Monday, Nov. 14.
