COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Basketball today announced the 12-man roster for the USA Basketball November 2022 Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team. The USA will play two games as part of their fifth qualifying window (out of six total) leading into the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup. The United States plays host to Brazil on Friday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. before hosting Colombia on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. The 12 athletes slated to compete for the USA have years of professional experience in the NBA, NBA G League and professional international leagues with nine athletes having prior USA Basketball experience.
The November World Cup Qualifying Team includes Charlie Brown Jr., Chris Chiozza, Will Davis II, Michael Frazier II, Langston Galloway, Rodney Hood, DaQuan Jeffries, Alize Johnson, Jake Layman, Henry Sims, David Stockton and Craig Sword.
Returning from the August 2022 USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team are Frazier, Galloway, Jeffries and Stockton. The team went 2-0, beating Uruguay in Las Vegas before defeating Colombia in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Brown will be making his 5-on-5 debut for USA Basketball, having earned a gold medal with the 2021 USA 3x3 AmeriCup Team. Chiozza was a member of the February 2019 World Cup Qualifying Team and Davis was a member of multiple World Cup Qualifying rosters, most recently in July. Davis, along with Sword, earned a bronze medal at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup in Brazil last month. Hood was a member of the 2016 USA Basketball Select Team. Layman was a member of the team at the 2012 USA U18 Men’s National Team.
Johnson and Sims will make their USA Basketball debuts.
USA head coach Jim Boylen will serve his fifth-straight head coaching assignment for the USA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Team, having served in the previous four windows. Ty Ellis will return as an assistant coach for his fifth straight window and will be joined by Corliss Williamson, who will serve his first coaching assignment with USA Basketball. Mike Wells will serve as an assistant coach/scout.
The U.S. enters the window at the top of Group F. A total of seven teams from the Americas will advance to the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup next August in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. The sixth and final window of qualifying is scheduled for February 2023, when the United States will head south to play at Uruguay and at Brazil.
