LAS VEGAS – As the USA prepares for the 2022 FIBA World Cup later this month, USA Basketball announced the list of athletes who will continue training camp in Las Vegas before traveling to Sydney, host of the World Cup, this week. USA Basketball will announce the 2022 USA World Cup Team before competition begins on Sept. 22.
Athletes continuing in training camp are Ariel Atkins, Shakira Austin, Aliyah Boston, Diamond DeShields, Stefanie Dolson, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney and NaLyssa Smith. Kahleah Copper, Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart join training camp as their respective WNBA seasons have concluded.
Additionally, several athletes competing in the 2022 WNBA Finals remain in the World Cup player pool, including Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young of the Las Vegas Aces, and Connecticut Sun players Brionna Jones and Alyssa Thomas.
Athletes are selected by the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee.
The 2022 FIBA World Cup, featuring 12 of the best national teams in the world, is scheduled for Sept. 22-Oct. 1 in Sydney. The USA will look to win its fourth consecutive World Cup dating back to 2010. The 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be announced prior to the start of group play. As part of Group A, the U.S. will start play Sept. 22 vs. Belgium. For more information, click here.
