USA Basketball seeking eighth FIBA AmeriCup Title
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – USA Basketball today announced the 12-man roster for the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup. The team will compete from Sep. 2-11 in Recife, Brazil.
The AmeriCup team includes Zylan Cheatham, Gary Clark Jr., Norris Cole, Will Davis II, Anthony Lamb, Frank Mason III, Patrick McCaw, Jodie Meeks, Jeremy Pargo, Elijah Pemberton, Craig Sword and Stephen Zimmerman.
The roster features 12 athletes who have prior USA Basketball experience in various capacities and eight making their competitive USA Basketball debuts.
Davis is the most tenured of all athletes expected in camp, most recently playing in the July 2022 World Cup Qualifying window and contributing to wins over Puerto Rico and Cuba. He also played in the February 2021 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying window.
Mason most recently played alongside Davis in the November 2021 World Cup Qualifying window. Zimmerman represented the USA in the February 2019 World Cup Qualifying window after previously playing with the junior national team, while Pargo was a member of the February 2020 AmeriCup qualifying team.
The team will be led by 2022 AmeriCup head coach Alex Jensen (Utah Jazz) and assistant coaches Mike Williams (Capital City Go-Go) and Steve Wojciechowski.
The 11th FIBA AmeriCup, the quadrennial FIBA Americas zone championship, was originally scheduled for 2021 before being rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As defending FIBA AmeriCup champions, the USA has claimed a record seven gold medals and one silver medal since the event’s inception in 1980. In 2017, the U.S. finished with a perfect 5-0 record and a gold medal finish over Argentina.
The USA will compete in Group C and face Mexico in their opening game on Sept. 2. For the full schedule, click here.
